For The Hood: Interview with LTHL (UK)

This spring’s best bass music events will already take place on this Friday at ETK Tartu and on Saturday at Von Krahl, presented by Europe’s best club music label Top Billin Music in cooperation with Hooligan Hamlet.

UK based sounds are the hottest thing in the worldwide club scene at the moment, grime is topping the charts and conquering the radio, so therefore it’s just the right moment to celebrate this with UK based guest DJs and local heroes at a proper event.

We want to introduce Guy Barlow, also know as LTHL, who is our second guest DJ at ‘For The Hood’ events.

For The Hood: Interview with LTHL (UK)

Tell us a little about yourself?

Hey! I’m Guy aka LTHL (L.T.H.L.) from Hampshire, UK. Been DJing now for about for about 11-12 years and producing about 10 years.

I really like your ‘Mythology’ EP. How would you describe it to someone that has never listened to it?

Thank you! Really glad you are feeling it. Wow that is quite a hard question. I was influenced by multiple genres while I was making it. ‘Trance meets Grime at multiple tempos’, might be the best way I’ve heard it described, which I’m quite happy about. I love the euphoria of Trance, so I’m glad some think that I managed to captured an element of that.

What has been your favourite gig so far?

I guess that I would have to say Plastician’s night at Phonox (London) called ‘Survey’. The whole vibe was amazing and Phonox is a small but fantastic space for an event of that kind. I highly recommend it.

But one of Skit’s ‘Yusoul’ events in London was also amazing. It was held inside Hub16 which is essentially a large basement. The venue and vibe that night were on point. Everyone was in high spirits, the music was beautiful, the drinks were flowing and everyone was just having a great time.

How did you meet with Top Billin Music?

I think it was just under a year ago when Sami of Top Billin approached me and asked to release my tune ‘Colours’ on Premium Crates 5. I jumped at the opportunity, because I’ve loved what Top Billin have been doing for a long time now. And out of that came more releases with them. It’s been a huge honour to work with them, and has to be the highlight of my music career so far.

What would you tell your 16-year-old self now that you’re more experienced?

Hahaha, oh my! Lots of things. In terms of music, probably to try and teach yourself more music production and that asking someone for help isn’t stupid.

What’s next?

Well, myself and Kareful are launching our label soon with a compilation of some of our favourite artists from both the Grime and Wave scene which we are both extremely excited about.

I have quite a few collaborations in the works, including one with Jaycek.

And of course, Tartu and Tallinn this weekend. I’ve been dying to visit Estonia for years, so getting to visit and do something I love at the same time is a dream come true.

Come and listen to LTHL’s selection in Tartu and Tallinn.
